Pair of Mid-20th Century Chinese Lamps
£250.00
A pair of Chinese export cast metal lantern table lamps, mid 20th century, in an aged brass finish. The stems are cast with a coiling dragon in relief: in Chinese decorative tradition the dragon represents power, good fortune, and protection, and appears across centuries of export ware made specifically for Western interiors.
The stems rise from circular stepped bases to pagoda-form lantern heads glazed in amber glass, the lids cast with a phoenix or koi detail and topped with a ball finial. Both lamps have been rewired with twisted fabric flex and fitted with UK plugs.
The amber glass casts a warm, low, and atmospheric glow rather than functional or preperational lighting. Imagine a hallway console, the lamps set either side of a central floral arrangement with a mirror behind to double the effect: set against a dark botanical wallpaper or lacquered surface, the amber glow and cast dragon stems read as a brave and considered choice.
