1950s Rare Strand Electric Theatre Spotlight on Wooden Tripod

Price

£895.00

A rare British theatre spotlight dating to the 1950s, originally manufactured for Strand Electric, whose headquarters on King Street in Covent Garden made them the foremost name in British stage lighting throughout the mid-twentieth century. The die-cast ventilated body has been professionally polished to a mirror finish and retains its internal reflector and 360-degree rotation.

The spotlight has been professionally rewired with three-core silk-braided flex and fitted with a CE-approved inline foot dimmer, allowing the beam to move from warm ambient glow to full spot. A vintage Bakelite plug to BS1363/A specification. PAT tested and compliant with current British safety requirements. Takes standard household bulbs to 100 watts.

Presented on a handmade wooden tripod with height-adjustable legs and brass chain detailing, adjustable between 75cm and 170cm. The beam spread is wide enough for architectural or feature lighting, working particularly well to highlight wall art or an object, though the piece is the star of the stage in itself. Strand Electric lamps of this type appear rarely in domestic circulation.
