Porcelain apothecary jars, lidded, with gilt banding and hand-painted tropical botanical decoration depicting palm trees and landscape scenes in the manner of 19th century European pharmacy ware, the Latin labels identifying the original contents. Pulpa Cassiae was derived from the pods of the Cassia Fistula tree, imported from the East or West Indies and Mel Vulgare is simply common honey, a staple of the apothecary's dispensary, used as a base for syrups, a preservative for other medicininal preparations. Early apothecary jars were made for storage but also for display of expensive and valuable items, and were decorated to impress - the painted tropical scenes on these are consistent with that tradition, projecting the exotic origins of the ingredients With this level of decoration and in this condition, the trio available would work well both decoratively and function well on a kitchen dresser or bathroom shelf.
