A James Keiller & Son stoneware marmalade pot, Dundee, 19th century. Keiller founded the world's first commercial marmalade factory in Dundee in 1797, and these stoneware pots were the original vessel in which the product reached the public: thick-walled, printed with the Keiller name and wreath label.

The pots have always been highly collectible because, in an era before disposable packaging, a well-made stoneware pot was a desired household object, repurposed for the kitchen long after the marmalade was gone. Finding one with the printed label in good clarity is increasingly uncommon.

In a contemporary kitchen or dresser these work as utensil holders, candle vessels, or simply as objects: small, sturdy, useful, and carrying a specific piece of British commercial and culinary history with them.
