Fitz and Floyd Palm Leaf Charger Plate, 1989
£48.00
A decorative charger plate by American ceramics house Fitz and Floyd, dating to 1989. Rendered in the brand's characteristically bold majolica-influenced style, the plate features a raised bamboo-effect rim in warm bamboo tones, overlaid with sculptural tropical palm fronds in deep forest and sage green. The central well is left in clean white, allowing the modelled leaf detail to read with full clarity against the unglazed ground.
Fitz and Floyd were known throughout the 1980s for their theatrical, highly decorative tableware and collectible ceramics. This piece is a strong example of the tropical and resort-influenced aesthetic that defined much of the decade's interior design appetite. The trompe l'oeil bamboo border grounds the piece in a naturalistic, craft-adjacent vocabulary while the three-dimensional leaf application gives it sculptural weight.
