Details
A chic vitrine dating to the 1920s, made in Hungary in the tradition of Central European Art Deco cabinetmaking. The upper section features a glass front enclosing a single shelf, while the lower cabinet provides enclosed storage secured by its original working lock and key. Throughout, the cabinet displays richly figured walnut veneer, burr-cut panels on lower doors, with striking swirling grain patterns. The roller feet are the piece's most distinctive signature, large turned cylindrical forms that anchor the piece, a characteristic of the Secessionist-influenced workshop tradition that flourished in Budapest during this period. Having been sympathetically restored it survives in excellent condition.
